Tetras aren’t the most exciting type of fish but they are hardy, as are many goldfish. They are quite flexible with fill up temperature so they are really the most ideal companions for goldfish. Goldfish require colder fill up than most fish. Many tetras are from South America so they are used to warmer fill up but mine seemt to do fine in cold fill up. I’ve had them for nearly two years.
Gold fishes delight in the company of other gold fishes.
Try having them in groups. Gold fishes are peace loving fishes and eats are omnivores(eating plants and worms). So try avoiding aggresive fishes like piranha and other fin nippers(fishes bitting the tail of other fishes).
Try to buy another kind of the goldfish you already have. If it is smaller than the fish you already have than make sure it will grow larger. Make sure that it isn’t much smaller or the goldfish’s company will become dinner.
It’s not really clear if goldfish suffer anything so crushing as loneliness, but if you want company for it then zebra danioes are fantastic fish. They are lively, peaceful and their blue stripes make them appealing. You’d need a shoal, though. Same goes with mountain cloud minnows – very pretty, tiny, lively, but you’d need a minimum of 6.
If space is an issue, then maybe a borneo sucker (or butterfly plec). They’re tiny and useful, as they clean the algae from the tank walls. Also, they’re cool because they look a bit like the facehuggers from Alien when suckered to the side of the tank.
Guppies do pretty well in unheated tanks, but would detract from your goldfish being the main feature. If you do get guppies, males may fight and you can only counter that by adding some females to the mix – and then you may be overrun by lower feature offspring, unless the goldfish eats them.
Platies need a more stable temperature and mollies like slightly saline fill up. Both are better off in tropical tanks.
really only other types of goldfish! a snail may possibly work, also a cory cat, or suckermouth catfish(but they get pretty huge, the nominal is teh Oto)!
Another Goldfish! Well that is if your tank is huge enough. Goldfish can get kinda large. So… always make sure you have room for them in the tank first. Go by…. one inch of fish per gallon rule. But be careful with it… they grow.
A Betta fish would do nicely with him. Dispite what others say Betta fish are peaceful toward other types of fish. I keep one in my 55 gallon goldfish tank. He gets along just fine and he is the luckiest guy around. Talk about an upgrade from a 2 gallon bowl for him.
I dont suggest guppies because they from what i have heard they reproduce a lot.
Final answer: goldfish. go to the store and look around. They have SO many goldfish to choose from. Get your fish a pretty ladyfish.
Secondary suggestion: if you just aren’t into the total goldfish thought go with a betta. BUT ONLY ONE BETTA. they fight with each other just not other fish. You can get him cheap. Like 2-6$. Depending on what he looks like. You may possibly get a crowntail. Their awesome and so pretty. Bettas come in so many colors im sure you would find what you want.

koi
get another goldfish to keep your fish company
do not get koi (get too huge) or algae eaters or plecos )will maim and suck out goldfish eyes)
If your tank is at least a twenty gallon, you can add a few colorless cloud mountain minnows, and/or a dojo loach or two.
If your tank is only a ten gallon, I wouldn’t add anything to it at all.
